Galloper Offshore Wind Farm

Andover House Hotel, accommodation near Peel Ports

Galloper Offshore Wind Farm is a 353MW wind farm project consisting of 56 wind turbines, located 30km off the coast of Suffolk. Situated alongside their sister project Greater Gabbard Wind Farm, this project has already created 700 new jobs in the local area.

The wind farm has two substations, one onshore and one offshore. This wind farm will generate enough energy each year to power the equivalent of more than 380,700 average UK households.

Now in full operation, a 60 strong team of skilled workers will operate and maintain the wind farm on a day to day basis from a temporary facility at Harwich International Port. A new state of the art base is now under construction next to their current facility and will be completed by the end of 2019.

The wind turbines used as part of the Galloper Offshore Wind Farm are made by Siemens. Siemens selected Peel Ports Great Yarmouth as the assembly location and installation base. A multi-million pound co-investment in port infrastructure has been agreed to support the construction of primary infrastructure and groundworks at this location.

So what do the people of East Anglia have to say about the prospects of these Wind Farms?

“This reinforces the East’s position as an international centre for the offshore wind industry.”

“We were pleased to see the Crown Estate identify the waters off Norfolk and Suffolk as potential locations for a fourth round of offshore wind farms.”

“These wind farms would bring thousands of new well-paid jobs in construction, manufacturing and operations.”

“The hospitality industry will truly flourish as workers form all over the UK and Europe will play a part in filling the empty hotel rooms out of season and bringing much needed growth into town’s such as Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.”
